Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer is firing back at a 24/7 Wall Street Facebook post listing Danville as the tenth worst city in America to raise a child. The Mayor says he has discovered that many of those types of polls do not use accurate information. And he even called one of the survey hosts. ‘’He made it very clear to me that there are no statistics involved in these types of surveys. But he also made it very clear to me that what he does know is different community’s desires in spreading different types of surveys on Facebook. He actually gets paid every time a survey is shared,’’ said Mayor Eisenhauer. ‘’And what he knows about Danville, Illinois is that if it paints the community in a negative light – it will receive a significant large number of shares.’’
And the Danville Mayor noted other Illinois cities are also having some of the same types of incidents as Danville. ‘’Look, there’s no question that there are challenges in this community – but there are challenges in every community. Yes, it was very unfortunate that we had two individuals who were involved in a homicide over this weekend,’’ said the Mayor. ‘’But I also heard the same thing about Decatur. I heard the same thing about Champaign. I heard the same thing about Urbana – all in the last three weeks. And yet you don’t find them on those same type of lists. And, in fact, if you look – you’ll find Champaign and Urbana on lists that talk about how they are one of the best cities in America. And yet you can sit and watch the news at night and see the same things that are happening in this community happening in that community,’’ added Eisenhauer.
And Mayor Eisenhauer believes that if local residents would start focusing more on the positive things happening here, he believes businesses would be more apt to locate here. ‘’And residents would be more apt to want to locate here. And you’re going to see more and more positive things occur,’’ added Mayor Eisenhauer during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
The 24/7 Wall Street report says it studied several areas in compiling its list of the 25 worst U.S. cities to raise a child. It says those things included violent crime statistics, access to parks and recreation and the quality of schools.
