In addition to some road closures being scheduled in Downtown Danville for the Friday (June 2nd) Sports & Brews event, there will also be some road closures Saturday (June 3rd) afternoon. Both downtown sides of North Street will be closed for the 1 PM to 5 PM Vermilion County Pride Fest. The Vermilion County Pride Coalition was formed this past March. Vice-president Bonnie Newberry says the event will be based at Temple Plaza; with food trucks, vendors, and more ready to go.
AUDIO: At 1:30 we will have a DJ playing music for everybody until 4:30. 1:30 will also kick off our pet parade, so bring your pet dressed in their Pride best. And we will do a parade, and there will be an award for cutest Pride pet. We will have resources from WIC, Crosspoint, the Up Center.
Numerous other vendors and resources will be there as well. Newberry also says the mission of the Vermilion County Pride Coalition is to help get rid of a stigma; and work on acceptance of all within the community.
AUDIO: We want to see Vermilion County become a safe and welcoming place. We want to kind of get rid of this idea that people have of what being gay is; and to help people realize, a lot of people that you interact with in your day-to-day life are a part of our community.
Newberry also mentioned there will be an after party at 8 PM, in Sarge’s Tap at 409 East Main.
