Danville Police are probing two Wednesday shooting incidents in which the victims were shot in the leg. Commander Joshua Webb says the first incident occurred around 3:35 p.m. in the 100 block of Elmwood Street. Police say that incident apparently stemmed from a dispute involving a woman. Forty-two year old Maiitland Montgomery told officers that Patrick Cahill, thirty-eight, of Danville had come to his residence and tried to attack Montgomery. And Montgomery says he fired shots at Cahill when he tried to break into his home.
Cahill suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound to a leg and was released following treatment. Montgomery was arrested on charges of unlawful use of weapons by a felon. And Cahill was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property.
The second shooting occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. A thirty-eight year old Danville man reported he was shot in the leg while playing basketball in the area of Elmwood Park. The victim said he does not know who shot him but described the suspect as a black male, about twenty-five years old.
Police are continuing to investigate both incidents and Commander Webb says anyone who has information that might assist police are asked to give them a call at (217) 431-2250. Or you can call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
