It was nearly two weeks ago that Danville received official word of a $983,000 Brownfields Development Grant from the EPA to clean up the southeast corner of North Vermilion and Fairchild. Danville Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk says it was about two weeks before that, when the city knew they had a chance at the grant, that they began asking; why not purchase the land next door at 8 East Fairchild, tear down the existing building where a vape shop is planned, get rid of that issue; and move forward with the city now controlling that entire corner.
AUDIO: Once they tipped us off that we have a really good chance of getting the award of just shy of a million dollars to clean up that corner for redevelopment; we took a long thought, “is it time now to piece together that entire corner for development in the future?”
The $310,000 offer to the land owner has been accepted, and the move is scheduled to be voted on during tonight’s (June 6th) City Council meeting at 6 PM.
