Scores of antique and classic cars were on hand Saturday (September 23rd) in Danville to honor the late Harold “Sparky’ Songer. The Pape Family Funeral Home grounds hosts the event, scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
The event serves as a fund-raiser to help with the upkeep of the nearby war memorials and Vermilion County War Museum. The car show includes food, entertainment and raffles.
Danville City Council member Lloyd Randle was one of the participants in the show. As he shined his Corvette, Randle told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that Songer epitomized how people should lead their lives. Songer served in America’s Armed Forces during World War II, and during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He and some others were instrumental in raising funds necessary for some local war memorials. And Songer also was among those spearheading the effort to develop the Vermilion County War Museum.
