Danville AMBUCS have been awarded a $500-thousand dollar planned gift for future needs of some local playgrounds designed for children with disabilities. The gift is from the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation, and was announced during a reception honoring Hegeler at the Danville Country Club last evening (Tuesday).
Mayor Scott Eisenhauer (in photo addressing crowd) notes Hegeler decided years ago that he wanted to support the AMBUCS projects. ‘’You know when he first started funding Playgrounds for Everyone and Spray Grounds for Everyone – those weren’t happening in any other communities around the country. That really did put Danville on the map,’’ says the Mayor. ‘’And his support to continue to pledge money towards those projects will continue to keep us on the map. The other thing it does is continues to touch the lives of children all over this community,’’ added Mayor Eisenhauer.
The money will be used for future improvements at the AMBUCS Spray Ground for Everyone at the Municipal Pool at Garfield Park, Play Ground for Everyone at Winter Park, and Independence Playground at Lincoln Park.
Lori Lyons, Director of the Danville AMBUCS Summer Camps, says the AMBUCS truly are blessed to have Mr. Hegeler as a partner. She told the crowd at the Danville Country Club how children using walkers, and those with other disabilities are able to play safely with other children thanks to the specially-designed playgrounds.
