Danville District 118 School Board members will consider Wednesday whether to rename the district’s administration building after former Superintendent David Fields. A committee met earlier and considered names for the building, which is located at the southwest corner of Jackson and Williams Streets. Following a discussion the committee unanimously recommended naming the building after Fields.
The committee noted several of Fields accomplishments including:
- Fields lengthy and commendable service as a District 118 employee and superintendent for 41 years;
- Fields strong educational leadership skills that were based in his children-first philosophy;
- Fields devoted community service over the years – including with the Laura Lee Fellowship House, United Way, Danville Housing Authority, Lions Club and others;
- And Dr. Fields service at state level educational posts – such as his service on the Illinois State Board of Education and being president of LUDA (Large Unit District Association.
The committee also recommended that appropriate signage be added to the building honoring Fields, and that a framed photograph and biography of Dr. Fields be hung in a public area of the new administration building.
