Members of the Danville District 118 School Board have unanimously approved calling the district’s administrative building the Dr. David L. Fields Administrative Service Center. Lloyd Randle, who served on a committee that considered naming the building, noted Fields rose from the grassroots level of education…
”Being a teacher and going on to hold various administrative positions in the district,” said Randle. ”We’re all aware that Dr. Fields career began in 1960 as an educator, going on to take on the Assistant Superintendent’s position in 1983. And then, of course, in 1991 he was appointed the position of Superintendent of District 118 Schools – and then, of course, went on to hold various statewide positions including the State Board of Education.”
Danville School Board President Bill Dobbles recalled he first worked with Dr. Fields when Dobbles was the chief negotiator for the Danville Education Association back in 1969. And Dobbles added he thinks naming the building after Fields ‘’is a wonderful idea.’’ Current Danville School Superintendent Alicia Geddis says she often calls Dr. Fields. ‘’He’s always giving in a very quiet way,’’ added Geddis.
