The City of Danville’s order for the demolition of Bresee Tower has been granted after owner Chris Collins did not appear in a Vermilion County Courtroom on Tuesday (July 18th) morning. Judge Mark S Goodwin called the case of the City of Danville vs CA Collins Enterprises, LLC at 11 AM. At one table sat Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; Danville Corporation Counsel James Simon, and attorney Joe Chamley. At the other table sat nobody.
Danville’s Mayor Williams says he does not see the actual tear down of Bresee Tower happening before the turn of the calendar, but he does see major preparations beginning very soon. Since the tear down of the adjoining Vermilion County Courthouse Annex Building is also planned, the city and county will have to work together; including on making plans for who’s going to do the actual work.
AUDIO: My guess is it won’t actually be demolished in 2023, but we will began preparation for demolition. So the next step will be working on an official intergovernmental agreement with the county for demolition, as well as actually putting out the RFP, request for proposal, for demolition so we can get qualified vendors here.
Bresee Tower owner Collins also did not show when he recently was given a two week period to do an inside and outside inspection of the building. That requirement came after a default was granted against CA Collins Enterprises because they had not hired legal representation for their legal conflict with the city.
