A man charged last month with murdering a Danville woman and concealing her body has waived his preliminary hearing. Twenty-six year old Ocheil Keys next court date is December 11th. By waiving the preliminary hearing it means the defendant can continue to be held for trial.
Keys is facing six counts of first-degree murder and one of concealing a homicidal death. The charges stem from the disappearance and death of 50-year-old Barbara Rose. Danville Police announced early this month that they had recovered remains believed to be Rose.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says witness and video evidence, along with forensic evidence determined that Keys allegedly shot Rose. Police say the suspect shared a home with Rose in the 1100 block of Cleveland Street in Danville.
Danville Police and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the case. They have received assistance from an Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.
At the time Keys was arrested he was out on bond in another, unrelated case. In that case Keys was charged with aggravated battery to a child and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Those charges were filed in September of 2016.
