Flames lit the sky on Danville’s southeast side tonight (Monday, November 27th, 2017) as fire destroyed a garage and shed, and heavily damaged a home. Chuck Walls, Chief of the Lynch Area Fire Protection District, explained the situation that firefighters found when they arrived at 802 Peach Street.
‘’I have a brush fire that blew from there to a tree, and caught the back of the house on fire – and a shed,’’ said Walls, ‘’and that’s what we’re dealing with right now.’’
The Lynch Chief says firefighters had to deal with a couple of complications as they battled the flames.
‘’Wind was a factor and so was the hydrants a factor,’’ said Walls. ‘’We lost pressure on the hydrant so we had to set up tanker operations as the hydrant wasn’t working as functional.’’
The location where the fire occurred is just outside the Danville city limits – near the Bowman Avenue exits along Interstate 74. Chief Walls says several volunteer departments were called to help.
‘’I have Westville, Tilton, Bismarck, Sidell and Kickapoo.’’
There were no injuries among the approximately 45 firefighters who were on the scene. And no other injuries were reported. A house next door had to be evacuated.
