There will be few contested races decided during the March 20th, 2018 General Primary Election in Vermilion County. Most of the candidates who have filed their nominating papers will advance to the November General Election.
There is a contest in March in the race for Vermilion County Clerk. Two Democrats – Mary Roberson and Darrin Holycross – filed petitions earlier. And incumbent Republican Cathy Jenkins filed her petitions on Monday.
Other Vermilion County office-holders had no one file to run against them – including Regional Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Reifsteck, Sheriff Pat Hartshorn, Supervisor of Assessments Mathew Long, and Vermilion County Treasurer Darren Duncan. All are Republicans seeking re-election. Hartshorn is seeking his eighth consecutive term as Sheriff.
The three people currently serving on the Vermilion County Board of Review were the only ones who filed for those posts. They are Amanda Shepherd, Robert Huff, and Jay Fruhling.
