Bitterly-cold wind-chills failed to deter dozens of volunteers who turned out Wednesday to help unload a truckload of wreaths at the Danville National Cemetery. Tammy Williams, local coordinator of the National Wreaths Across America Program, says the wreaths serve as a remembrance…
The wreaths honor all who have served in America’s Armed Forces.
And this year Williams says the number of sponsored wreaths has risen sharply…
The Danville National Cemetery will host a special program on Saturday, December 16th, which is Wreaths Across America Day. State Senator Scott Bennett will be the guest speaker for the program which begins at 11:00 a.m.
[Prior to Saturday’s program, Danville Police and Firefighters and some local motorcyclists will meet another truck carrying wreaths for the Danville National Cemetery. They will escort the truck along Lynch Road to U.S. Route 136 (East Main Street)….then will cruise through the Danville Veterans Affairs campus before heading to the National Cemetery.]
Williams says there are just under 11-thousand graves at the Danville National Cemetery. So she notes the number of wreaths this year will be placed on half of them.
