A group working to raise nearly $700-thousand dollars for upgrading Covington’s City Park playground is nearing its goal. The Covington Community Foundation has announced a $100,000 matching grant toward the park.
Dale White, CEO of the Community Foundation says volunteers are doing a fantastic job in raising funds for the project. A small group of donors announced earlier they were willing to match dollar-for-dollar any donation up to a total amount of $100,000. So far White says $93-thousand dollars has been matched by the community.
Plans are to begin construction on the state-of-the-art destination playground early next year. White says $618-thousand dollars has been raised so far toward the $695-thousand dollar goal.
The playground will feature a tree house, a splash pad, a butterfly garden, sand and water play area, plus other traditional playground equipment, according to Linda McGurk of the group ‘Friends of the Covington City Park.’ Plans also include a six-foot trike path, outdoor fitness equipment and covered picnic area.
