The STEP Recovery Center is hosting a special Walk for Recovery this coming Saturday evening, which will begin at Temple Plaza in Downtown Danville at 7 PM.
As STEP Recovery Center founder and CEO Wendy Lambert reminds us, September is Recovery Month and Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, and this Saturday the 30th will be National Recovery Day.
This walk is to remember loved ones who are suffering from, or have been lost to, mental illness, suicide, addiction, or overdose. Wendy Lambert says the walk will go south on Vermilion, east on Main, north on Hazel, west on Harrison, south on Walnut, and then east on North back to the starting point.

STEP RECOVERY CENTER will be hosting the Sat Sept 30th National Recovery Day Walk; starting at 7 PM at Temple Plaza.
AUDIO: And we’ll end back at Temple Plaza. And then right there, that short wall right there in front, we’re going to put people’s pictures. Anybody that wants to bring a picture of their loved one to commemorate them; they can bring their own candles. We will have some candles. We’ll do like a candlelight vigil.
Special artwork commemorating a loved one can be displayed as well. Lambert says the coroner’s office has reported 10 suicides and 22 overdose deaths thus far this year. She also says prayers will be offered Saturday for families who have lost their loved ones.
AUDIO: People just reaching a point where they’re giving up; and we have to offer our community hope. We have to. We have to put a stop to this; one is too many.
The actual event will run from about 7 to 8:30 PM this coming Saturday. Please meet at Temple Plaza just prior to 7 PM to participate in the walk.
