October 1 – 31: 5th Annual Library Crawl. The Annual Library Crawl is a unique event organized by the public libraries of Illinois Heartland Library System as a fun way to introduce your public library’s patrons to the other libraries of the IHLS service area. Patrons visit area libraries throughout the month of the crawl and get a passport stamp at each library they visit. Some patrons have tried to visit every library in the crawl! Passports available starting September 25.

A Novel Idea: October 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fischer Theatre. This month’s movie is Carrie (1976), based on the book by author Stephen King. Tickets are $5 but you can go for FREE by visiting the Danville Public Library – visit today! All proceeds are used to fund the growing programming of the Historic Fischer Theatre and the continued restoration of our historic landmark.
October 9: Genealogy: Learn FamilySearch.org. Discover your family story using FamilySearch.org. This website is free to use and available for everyone. 1-2:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
October 9: Teen Movie Mondays: Every Monday we will show a movie in Teen Zone and have popcorn! Teens can suggest and vote on which movie we watch. 4 – 6 PM.
October 10: Tabletop Tuesdays in the Teen Zone. Visit the Teen Zone each Tuesday to play board games/ card games with your friends and enjoy some snacks! 4 – 6 PM.
October 10: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Board Game Night. Play your favorite game with your friends! 4:30 PM in the Children’s Room. Ages 8-12.
October 10: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Action rhymes, stories, and songs for children age 5 and under. Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 11: Dungeons & Dragons. A tabletop role-playing game that allows teens to quest for treasures and fame, or at the very least hunt enemies. This program is for teens, both those who are new to the game and those who already know the best way to cleave an orc. New players always welcome! Wednesdays at 4:00 PM in the Teen Zone.
October 11: Rainbow Readers Playgroup. Enjoy stories, STEAM projects and socialization activities for preschoolers, ages 3-5 years, and their caregivers. Wednesdays at 10 AM- 11 AM. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 12: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 PM in the Teen Zone.
October 12: Tween 3D Printer Class. Get your tech on while you learn about 3D printing. Use software to create your own 3D masterpiece! For ages 8-12. 4:30 p.m.
October 14: Berry Cool Market: Come join the fun and familial environment at The Berry Cool Market at the beautiful DPL park! The Berry Cool Market features weekly music by this area’s top musicians and other demonstrations, activities, and family friendly events throughout the season … and of course, our weekly, eclectic mix of art, food, and produce vendors! Saturdays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
October 14: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory program designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth. Saturdays at 11 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room
October 14: Children’s Saturday Movie Matinee. Join us for a family-friendly movie in the Children’s Room every Saturday at noon. Children and Tweens welcome!
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture, win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified. Interactive Movie Experience: Play games while you watch your favorite movies! Available on a first come first served basis. Call 217-477-5225 for the list of movies and to reserve your movie packet.
Tablets for Tweens. Danville Public Library’s Children’s Department is excited to announce that we have iPads available for Tween use. The iPads are pre-installed with games and apps that are sure to capture the imagination and promote lifelong learning. Tweens can make videos with Stop Motion Studio, record music with GarageBand, design graphics with Canva, and so much more!
