The Danville High School Madrigal Singers have a chance to take the stage with Foreigner on October 22nd, at the State Farm Center in Champaign. You can help them get there by giving them your vote. As DHS Vocal Music Director Jeff Thomas explains, Foreigner has been following this routine in every stop on their tour, and about ten schools are competing this time around.
AUDIO: They have a local high school join them, and sing the backup vocals to “I Want to Know What Love Is.” So there’s a really cool little contest everywhere they go on their tour.
Thomas says the great thing about sending in an audition video for the contest was you could impress Foreigner and the voters by singing any of their songs. For Thomas, the choice was obvious.
AUDIO: So we recorded a tryout tape with the Danville choir singing “Cold as Ice,” one of my favorite songs by Foreigner. You have to go to newsgazette.com; there’s a link up at the top that says “contests.” And once you go to that tab you can see all of the choirs that have input things. You can watch a lot of good music, all the schools around the area. Click on “Danville High School,” and there’ll be a button that says “vote.”
You can view the Danville students singing “Cold as Ice” while you’re there. Thomas says, for the Madrigal Singers, this is a chance to learn some new songs. And for some of them, they’re already quite familiar with the 80s.
AUDIO: A lot of my kids are show choir kids, and we sing a lot of 80s rock tunes in show choir. So they know a couple of those really famous Foreigner songs. And when I said we were singing COLD AS ICE a couple of them were really excited about it.
Votes will be taken until about October 9th. You are allowed to vote three times each day from an individual e-mail address.
