A Danville man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to bribery charges. Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey sentenced 37-year-old Keyvell Lewis Wednesday.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says Lewis faced mandatory Class X sentencing due to his prior criminal history. He had been convicted in Cook County earlier on charges of armed robbery, robbery and forgery.
Lewis had been charged in December of 2017 here in Vermilion County with multiple counts of criminal sexual assault of a female juvenile. State’s Attorney Lacey says while those charges were pending, Lewis had a conversation with the victim’s mother where he suggested she could flee with the victim. And in a subsequent conversation with the victim and her mother, Lacey said Lewis directed the juvenile to tell the court she had lied. Lacey says Lewis told the girl he had $8,000 and would take her shopping if she went to court and dropped the sexual assault charges.
The case was prosecuted by First Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Weber and Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher McCallum.
