A Danville pastor and the president of the local branch of the NAACP spoke out last night against the proposal to change to a city manager form of government. Pastor Dr. U. P. Williams spoke at last night’s city council meeting….
Ed Butler, president of the local NAACP, also wants to keep the present form of government intact….
Pastor Williams said changing to the city manager form of government would place too much power in the hands of a few.
Danville voters will decide in the November General Election whether they want to change from the mayor/alderman form of government to the city manager/council form. If the vote passes, Danville voters would still elect 14 aldermen from 7 wards, but the mayor’s job would become a part-time position as of next spring.
