Students from high schools across southern Vermilion County listened intently Monday as a nationally acclaimed speaker spoke about how drugs and alcohol have adversely affected his life. Tim Ryan says there are a lot of young people who want help…
Ryan (shown here) told the students at Westville High School that if they have a family member or friend who is struggling with addiction they should not blame themselves. And he also said he expected to hear from some of the students after he leaves Vermilion County….
Ryan also noted it is homecoming week…and a time when students like to party. He told the students at Westville that when he was on a homecoming date he got drunk and threw his date out of the car. She suffered a broken leg.
And Ryan told about several high-paying jobs he had over his life. ‘’I had everything. I had money, I had great careers – but I was driven by heroin.’’
Ryan also blames himself for the fact that his son got involved in illegal drugs…and died from a drug overdose.
