An investigation is underway into what caused a fire that destroyed a large machine shed near Westville Wednesday morning.
Westville Fire Captain Mark Ames says two semi tractors and another truck were destroyed by the flames. Some other agriculture equipment was also destroyed, so the dollar loss from the blaze is significant. Doug Miller is the farm manager for the property located about a mile west of Westville.
Ames told VermilionCountyFirst.com News the fire was reported by a passer-by shortly after 6:30 a.m. By then, Ames says all firefighters could do was take a defensive position because the building was engulfed in flames.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to assist in trying to find the cause because of the large dollar amount of the loss. There were no injuries. Ames adds the cause may be weather related because a strong thunderstorm had passed through the area earlier. He says the cause does not appear to be suspicious.
Westville Firefighters received mutual aid from the Catlin, Georgetown, Ridge Farm, Lynch and Tilton departments in dousing the blaze.
