It has been a week since Early Voting began in advance of next month’s election, and locally the turn-out is already being described as brisk. ‘’It’s definitely been steady,’’ says Lindsey Light, an election specialist in County Clerk Cathy Jenkins’ office.
Light says a handful of voters were waiting in line when Early Voting began at the County Clerk’s office last Thursday. And Light says she has no doubt the office will break its ‘vote by mail’ record. Over 450 ballots have already been mailed out by the office.
Meanwhile, Sandra Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, says the turnout for Early Voting has already surpassed this point in the last election. And Delhaye thinks one of the things that is peaking voter interest in this election is the proposal to change Danville’s form of government to the city manager form.
Light was concerned that voters might have forgotten that the County Clerk’s office is in a new location, at the former federal building in downtown Danville. But she adds voters seem to have remembered the move. The County Clerk’s office is located on the first floor of the Vermilion County Administration Building (formerly the federal building) at 201 North Vermilion Street. The Danville Board of Election office is located in the basement of that building.
