The Danville Public Library will be hosting a number of special events this week. Here is a rundown on those activities:
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Visit www.danvillepubliclibrary.org for resources and events all month long.
October 7 – 13 is Teen Read Week! Join us all week long for special activities incorporating this year’s theme, “It’s Written in the Stars.”
October 8: What killed your ancestors? The Genealogy Club will explore 19th century medicine, the accuracy of information, names for certain diseases, and library resources on these subjects. Genealogy Club will meet from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the archives room.
October 9: Wee Wigglers story times contain songs and stories focusing on sharing and kindness for the youngest book-lovers. Offered on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Program Room, for children from birth up to 24 months, with a caregiver.
October 9: Kids’ Snack Club combines themed stories and snacks to educate children. In celebration of National Fluffer Nutter day, children will make a yummy Fluffer Nutter snack. Kids’ Snack Club meets at 3:30 p.m. in the Children’s Program Room, for children, ages 5-18; children under 8 with a caregiver.
October 10: Preschool Pals Playgroup meets at 10:00 a.m. in the first floor meeting room. For children, ages 2-6 years, and their caregivers.
October 10: Girls Who Code clubs are structured to teach basic elements in computer science to girls. For tween and teen girls, ages 12-18, 4:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room.
October 10: Do you know how to spot signs of depression? Jim Russell from Vermilion County Mental Health 708 Board will present on depression and suicide prevention at 6:00 p.m. in the first floor meeting room.
October 11: Tween Gaming is a chance for children, ages 8-11, to game together in the Children’s Program Room from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
October 11: The Wonder Garden Club teaches children about plants and how to care for them. Children will learn about spiders, the insects and the plants. All participants will plant a spider plant and take it home. This program begins at 5:00 p.m. in the Children’s Program room. Ages 5-11 (under 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver).
October 12: Adults, 60 and older, are invited to Coffee Time to enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea with snacks, games, and good conversation. This program is held on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the first floor meeting room.
October 13: Meet local authors at the library’s annual Author’s Fair. Authors will sign copies of their books, speak about their works and the publishing process. Bring the kids for a variety of fun activities. This program is held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the first floor meeting room.
