UPDATED AQUA STATEMENT AS OF SATURDAY, JANUARY 20th
We’re continuing to make progress in building up the water reserves in our Danville system, which is further increasing water pressure and improving service for customers.
For previously notified customers under our Precautionary Boil Water Advisory: we are waiting for the pressure to increase enough to begin required testing to lift the advisory. While we did not experience negative water quality impacts at our plant during this incident, our testing and collaboration with the Illinois EPA provides assurance that the water is safe to consume.
We will provide an update when that testing process begins, which we anticipate will be by tomorrow midday, possibly sooner.
ORIGINAL STORY FROM FRIDAY, JANUARY 19th
There was good news for Aqua Illinois Water Company customers in Danville late today. The company reported it has corrected the equipment malfunction at its Danville water treatment plant. Aqua says the problem had been caused by the extreme temperatures in our region over the past week. Bill Pickett has more….
The company said late today (Friday, January 19, 2024) that operations have stabilized – and the company is seeing increased water pressure at the plant and in readings being taken across its system. Some customers were also reporting increased water pressure and Aqua said it expected the pressure to continue to improve over the weekend. However, the company said filling its reserves to increase pressure will take some time. ‘We’re working on ways we can speed up the process and we ask customers to continue to conserve water to help expedite our return to normal water levels,’ said a statement from Aqua Illinois Water.
Once the water pressure increases to an acceptable level, the company said it can begin the process of working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to lift the precautionary boil order notice in effect for a number of previously notified Danville customers.
‘We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will continue to keep customers and city officials updated,’ added the Aqua statement.

Aqua said earlier that the extreme temperatures in our region had caused the Danville Water Treatment Plant and system to be under extreme stress for several days. The company says it had been working around the clock for days to correct the problem. The water treatment plant is located at the south end of Lake Vermilion.
