Newly appointed 104th District GOP State Rep Brandun Schweizer, taking the place of Mike Marron after he resigned to lead Vermilion Advantage, has told Neuhoff Media he was very impressed by how kind everyone was during his first week in Springfield, when the new legislative session began last week. Schweizer says, he had an idea of what it might be like. But he’s glad to report he was completely wrong.
AUDIO: I just kind of assumed it was, like in high school you had your own cliques that you were hanging out with. But, it was not that. Everybody there was really nice. I spoke with a lot of folks on the other side of the aisle, great individuals. And I really look forward to getting back down there, and introducing my own legislation that fits into by own core values.
The retired U.S.M.C. Master Sergeant says he found one of the biggest challenges to be trying to focus on who’s speaking in the chamber, with so much other conversation going on between legislators.
AUDIO: And that’s one of the concerning areas that I have; is that it’s very hard to listen and understand what people are saying when there’s a lot of conversations going around on the floor itself. But I will work my way around that; and look forward to getting stuff done.
So far, Schweizer’s been named to the Appropriations and Higher Education, Energy and Environment, Ethics and Elections, Gaming, and Human Rights Illinois House Committees. He says legislators are due back in Springfield for the resumption of the Spring Session on February 5th.
