The Vermilion County Animal Shelter says the fight against a serious mystery respiratory virus affecting dogs continues, but things are moving in the right direction. Shelter director Kasey Snyder says they are now able to keep about 30 dogs still fighting the illness in one isolated area, thereby leaving room for new animals if need be. But sometimes space is still a factor; as they recently, in one day, took in seven new dogs.
Snyder says one thing they are still trying to do is offer those who call them about wanting to drop off a dog assistance and alternatives.
AUDIO: We’re trying to either provide them resources; if it’s something as simple as a bag of food or “I need to give this animal up because I can’t afford its vaccine.” We’re helping, if they need to surrender their pet; we’re meeting the animal, taking its photos, having the owner write a bio for it; and then we’re kind of doing the posting and the networking of the dog. And they’re holding on to it until we find placement.
