The filing period begins Monday (November 19th) for candidates interested in running in the February 26th Primary Election.
In Danville, half of the 14 seats on the city council will be up for grabs along with the posts of mayor and city treasurer. Voters rejected the idea of having a city manager, so the mayor’s job will continue to be full-time.
As of Friday a number of people had picked up petition packets at the Danville Board of Election Commission Office. Just because they picked up a packet, though, does not make them a candidate until they file petitions to run. Those who had picked up packets indicating they planned to run for mayor include:
- Rickey Williams Jr. (who is currently mayor)
- Dan Duncheon (who currently serves on the city council)
- James McMahon
- Steve Nichols (who currently serves on the city council)
- Donald Crews
Danville ward 7 alderman Lloyd Randle had also picked up a packet earlier to run for mayor but says he decided against it.
Stephanie Wilson, the current City Treasurer, was the only person who had picked up a petition packet to run for that position.
Others who had picked up petition packets and the offices they said they were interested in seeking include:
- Brenda Brown – incumbent alderwoman in Ward 1
- Jim Foley who wants to be Ward 1 alderman
- Rick Strebing (current alderman in Ward 2)
- Jerry Hawker (who wants to be Ward 2 alderman)
- Sharon Pickering (incumbent alderwoman in Ward 3)
- Damara Joyner (who wants the Ward 3 position)
- Michael O’Kane (incumbent in Ward 4)
- Thomas Stone (incumbent from Ward 5)
- Donald Tetter (who wants to be Ward 5 alderman)
- Jon Cooper (incumbent from Ward 6)
- Thomas Pruitt (who wants to be Ward 6 alderman)
- Aaron Troglia (who wants to be Ward 6 alderman)
- Fred Pancoast (who wants to be Ward 6 alderman)
- Lloyd Randle (who picked up a packet to run for re-election as
Ward 7 alderman. He had also picked up a packet to run for mayor but decided against seeking that position.)
- Bob Iverson (who wants to be Ward 7 alderman)
The candidate filing period for the February 26th Primary Election runs until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 26th, 2018. The General Election is April 2nd.
