It is another busy week at the Danville Public Library with a number of special events on tap. All of these events are open to the general public and include:
November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Visit www.danvillepubliclibrary.org for resources and events all month long.
November 26: Teens, tell us what events you’d like to see at the library. This month, Meeting of the Teen Minds will discuss library teen programming at the library. The meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the second floor teen space. For teens, ages 12-18 years.
November 27: Wee Wigglers story times contain songs, stories, and serious silliness for the youngest book-lovers. Offered on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Program Room, for children from birth up to 24 months, with a caregiver.
November 27: Kids’ Snack Club combines themed stories and snacks to educate children. In honor of National French Toast Day, children will enjoy a yummy French Toast snack. Kids’ Snack Club meets at 3:30 p.m. in the Children’s Program Room, for children, ages 5-18; children under 8 with a caregiver.
November 27: In July 2006, two-and-a-half-year-old Reagan Williams became the victim of child abuse at the hands of a caregiver. In her memory, a public charity, Reagan’s Rescue, was created to bring awareness of Shaken Baby Syndrome (Abusive Head Trauma) to the East Central Illinois area. Reagan’s grandfather, local educator, author, and internationally-recognized child advocate, Greg Williams, shares his family’s journey. The evening will include SBS facts, a summary of the organization’s advocacy efforts, and readings from Greg’s recently published book. From 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the first floor conference room.
November 28: Preschool Pals Playgroup meets at 10:00 a.m. in the first floor meeting room. For children, ages 2-6 years, and their caregivers
November 28: Girls Who Code clubs are structured to teach basic elements in computer science to girls. For tween and teen girls, ages 12-18, 4:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room.
November 28: Make a T-shirt totebag at this month’s Teen DIY at 5:00 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. For teens, ages 12 to 18; materials provided.
November 28: NaNoWriMo participants, Come Write In! Enjoy snacks and the company of other writers as you write toward your 50k words. From 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room. For adults, ages 18 and older.
November 29: Discover fascinating short stories and poems that can tug at your heart strings, chill your bones or give you a great sense of hope in under one hour at Teen Book Challenge. This month, read If by Rudyard Kipling, then join in discussion about its meaning! This program starts at 5:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room. For teens, ages 12-18.
November 30: Adults, 60 and older, are invited to Coffee Time to enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea with snacks, games, and good conversation. This program is held on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the first floor meeting room.
December 1: National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. Wondering what to do once you hit 50k words? Meet local published author Brian K. Morris who will give you advice and answer questions about the editing and publishing process to finish your novel! This event is from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room.
