Some new classes are coming next year at Danville High School. District 118 Board members last night approved new courses including Advanced Placement Environmental Science, Access, PowerPoint and Spreadsheets, along with Geometry in Construction. Other new classes are Dual Enrollment with Danville Area Community College and include Weight Lifting, Fitness Center, Micro and Macro Economics and Statistics.
Danville High School Principal Kim Norton and District 118’s Director of Curriculum, MaryEllen Bunton, said they see a need to increase opportunities for students to prepare them for post-secondary life.
Also new to the Danville District are some Pre-K classes at Edison Elementary School. Two additional Pre-K classrooms were added at Edison starting this week. Kelly Truex, Director of Educational Support Programs for the Danville District, says hopefully those additional classrooms will help eliminate a Pre-K waiting list. Two pre-school teachers and two teaching assistants have been hired to teach the new students.
