A man whose efforts have helped veterans by getting highly-trained dogs for those suffering from PTSD is being honored Thursday evening.
Dave Hughes will be presented an ‘Outstanding Community Service Award’ at the VFW Post on Pine Street in Danville. The award is from the VFW, the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and Working Out PTSD. The award will conclude a day-long Toys for Tots collection event at the VFW Post. Area residents can drop off new toys there from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday (December 6th, 2018).
The Toys for Tots campaign in the Danville area and western Indiana is named after Tyler Wilson, a veteran who struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and lost his battle in 2016.
Hughes says he is committed to helping other Veterans who are still struggling…
Hughes is director of a K9 Warrior Team which was established through the American Legion Dornblaser 203 in Georgetown….
Although he is the one getting the award, Hughes credits his entire Mission K9 Warrior Team with being the ones who make the program possible.
If you would like to help the Mission K9 Warrior Team, call the American Legion in Georgetown at (217) 662-8211.
