A Danville woman who was shot earlier this month during an alleged domestic dispute has died. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says 29-year-old Marlene Brown died at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday (December 25, 2018) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says she is continuing to review the case before deciding whether to file any additional charges against 26-year-old Bryant Marshall of Danville. He was continuing to be held Wednesday on charges that were filed earlier, including attempted first-degree murder.
Danville Police say they found Brown laying in the 300 block of North Washington Street on December 15th. Police say that as they were responding to the scene they were flagged down by Marshall who told them he was the person they wanted. Police add they have recovered a gun in the incident.
Marshall was originally charged with attempted first degree murder and other counts, but since Brown has died the charges could be upgraded.
Authorities had said that Brown was reportedly Marshall’s girlfriend, and that the couple was apparently involved in an argument just before the shooting. But Brown’s sister, Katherline Smith, said Wednesday that Brown had broken off relations with Marshall days before the shooting. Smith also claims Marshall then became ”obsessed” with her sister.
Coroner Northrup says an autopsy is scheduled for today (December 26th) and an inquest may be held at a later date. The death is being investigated by Danville Police and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
