Results of tests from the Illinois Department of Public Health have found that three suspected cases of COVID-19 virus from Vermilion County last week were negative. But while the results show those persons did not have the virus, Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole says his office is awaiting test results on 12 other individuals.
As of late Tuesday (March 17, 2020), Toole said there had been no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Vermilion County. Medical professionals here in Vermilion County and statewide are remaining vigilant for the possibility of cases.
Toole says the Illinois Department of Public Health is using laboratories in Chicago, Springfield and Carbondale to conduct tests on any suspected cases of the virus. In addition, the Illinois Department of Public Health plans to use some private commercial labs if need be as the number of suspected cases grows.
(Toole is scheduled to be the guest on WDAN 1490am Radio’s ‘Newsmakers’ program Wednesday morning (March 18, 2020) from 7:30 until 8:00 a.m.)
