Although many of the large industries that used to be in the Danville area are long gone, the Illinois Manufacturer’s Association is taking note of the key role manufacturing is continuing to play in Vermilion and Champaign Counties. Leaders of the Association stopped by Parkland Community College during their ‘Manufacturing Matters Illinois’ Tour.
It was noted that in Vermilion County manufacturing supports almost 12-thousand jobs. Indeed, one manufacturing job supports 1.2 other jobs in Vermilion County. All told, the manufacturing industry generates more than $3.7 billion dollars in economic output in Vermilion County – more than 27-percent of the county’s Gross Domestic Product according to figures released by the Illinois Manufacturer’s Association.
In neighboring Champaign County, more than 11,700 people hold manufacturing jobs. The industries create $3.4 billion dollars in economic output for Champaign County, accounting for nearly 7-percent of the county’s Gross Domestic Product.
