The Vermilion County Coroner’s office has identified the man who died during a shooting Sunday afternoon in Danville.
34-year-old Matthew Huerta was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the shooting. It is the city’s third murder and second fatal shooting of the year.
Commander Josh Webb says that officers responded to the 600-block of Plum Street on the city‘s east side around 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
Officers located Huerta lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to his back. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
Webb says that the suspect exited a vehicle and fired one shot at Huerta, and then got back in his vehicle and fled the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call Danville police.
