A heartwarming moment from this past Thursday evening’s Danville Area Community College Board Meeting was hearing students of Dr. Jonathon Wade talk about how they benefited from the three-plus-one program.
When DACC students take advantage of the three-plus-one, they spend the first two years getting their Associate’s Degree, the third year taking additional DACC classes, and then they can complete their Bachelor’s Degree by staying home and taking the fourth year online.
DACC already has agreements with some four year schools on this, such as Eastern Illinois University or Indiana Wesleyan. But Dr. Wade’s students took their online classes from Franklin University in Ohio.
And once it’s all over, DACC students going this route can have a four-year degree for $25,000 or less.

Wade, who teaches social sciences such as Sociology and Psychology, says a program like this is not just something different to save money. He says it also keeps educated people in this area, to work here, to help with what these students were studying: helping families with substance use problems or mental health needs.
AUDIO: The goal is to not just think outside the box, but to keep our workforce here. And so they can go to school at DACC, they can build relationships with their professors, build relationships with their fellow students and their community, do a year online; and then join our workforce to help us do better.
In other business during Thursday night’s board meeting, DACC chemistry instructor Dr. Amy Nicely received tenure.
