A wonderful moment has happened for the Vermilion County Children’s Advocacy Center. They have been officially certified by the National Children’s Alliance in Washington, D.C. The Advocacy Center cut their ribbon in October a year ago, and have operated since July of 2021, at 200 South College Street, Suite B; in the Health Department building.
The Vermilion County Children’s Advocacy Center, the Vermilion County Regional Office of Education, and the Vermilion County Health Department are all located in the building at 200 South College Street in Danville.
These advocacy centers give children who are victims of physical or sexual abuse the chance to explain what happened to them in a child friendly atmosphere, with that testimony allowed to be admissible in court. Advocacy Center Executive Director Brooke Ferber says they are very fortunate, because getting this kind of recognition from the National Children’s Alliance sometimes takes at least a couple whole years of operation. But Ferber says she had great help from her staff, and elsewhere.

So it’s an evidence based standard on how to do a forensic interview. It’s going to be best for the child; it’s going to the best for the investigation process.
Ferber says this will allow the Vermilion County Children’s Advocacy Center access to additional resources, as well as funding and surveying opportunities.
