A blessing ceremony Monday afternoon celebrated some newly renovated space at the OSF HealthCare Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Care Center in Danville. Judi Miles is the Patient Care Manager at the Cancer Center….
{AUDIO: ‘’We decided to expand our exam room space so that we could facilitate the influx in patients. And so we went from two exam rooms to five. We also are trying to recruit a physician or an advanced nurse provider.’’}
(This is one of the renovated rooms at the Cancer Center.)
Miles notes there has been a cancer center in Danville since 1982…
{AUDIO: ‘’We are the only full service cancer center in Vermilion County, meaning that we have medical oncology and we have radiation oncology. So we see patients for chemotherapy, immunotherapy, those types of things, and then we do radiation therapy here. Back in March of 2022 we just put in a new linear accelerator…so it’s better, it’s faster, it’s more accurate for patient care.’’}
(The OSF Cancer Center added this linear accelerator in 2022.)
Miles added the number of patients seeking care at the center has remained stable….
{AUDIO: ‘’So we see an average of about twenty-five to thirty patients a day here. …. We don’t want that to grow too much but we want to be able to handle it if it does get bigger.’’}
The OSF HealthCare Bobette Steeley Hegeler Cancer Care Center is located at 806 North Logan Avenue in Danville.
