The Bishop of the Peoria Catholic Diocese is seeking input on a plan for the Danville vicariate (or district). Bishop Louis Tylka said in an online post ‘The Growing Disciples Process’ is designed to provoke conversation, share ideas, and receive feedback. He added decisions have yet to be made, and he will consider all data. A final decision on the plan is not expected until next year.
The proposal for the Danville Vicariate calls for dropping from four priests to three, with St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Danville being the primary site with two secondary sites. They would be St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hoopeston and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westville. Both Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville and Saint Isaac Jogues in Georgetown would be ‘’not used’’.

In a message to those in the 26 county Peoria Diocese, Bishop Tylka said he knows there will be some difficult decisions ahead, adding it’s because we live in a very different world.
In an online statement, Bishop Tylka added that while it is likely there will be a need to close or merge some parishes, ‘’it’s about going out to spread the Gospel.’’
