Michelle Brooks
“Michelle is one of the most amazing, selfless humans I have ever met. She has the most special way of reaching the “hard to reach” students not only on an academic level but also on a personal level. She has made a difference in the lives of so many students, their families and honestly anyone that she has ever worked with. Michelle ensures that no kid goes without, whether it be for Christmas, clothing, or food. She is a solid object for so many kids that have instability happening in their lives.” – Tricia Keith
What a beautiful nomination for a beautiful soul. Michelle Brooks is a lifelong Vermilion County resident that is continuously giving back. She is a Behavior Interventionist Instructor for Vermilion County through VASE, a site coordinator for Georgetown Ridge Farm High School Project Success, and Union President. She also serves on Georgetown City Council, VASE Crisis Committee, and Middlefork Sunshine Committee.
Michelle grew up in a loving, supportive family. She confessed that none of this would have been possible without the love of her sweet mom. She married the love of her life Chris in 2010. They have a wonderful son Derek, an amazing daughter-in-law, and a beautiful grandbaby! They also have one 200-pound fur baby with an attitude, Ottis.
Michelle believes a community is only as strong as its weakest members and we must strive to help everyone be their best. She loves what she does because she has a chance to help. She has the chance to make a small difference in the lives of students and that is what it is all about. Michelle was fortunate enough to have love and support from some amazing teachers, coaches, family, and friends throughout her life. They were able to see her strengths and encourage her to grow, and now, Michelle feels it is her place to do the same.
As the doors of education opened for Michelle, she was able to be mentored by the best of the best. Her biggest educational influence was her Aunt Sherron Clayborn-Stibbs. Her model of excellence in the classroom and as an administrator had a lasting impact on Michelle. As Michelle grew in education, there were so many other exemplary examples of great teachers and administrators along the way. Because of them, Michelle will always strive to do better and better.
Michelle feels blessed to live in such a caring community. She loves the people here and the beautiful scenery. She loves everything outdoors, especially fishing! She also enjoys traveling, cooking, and considers herself a foodie.
Well Michelle, the feeling is mutual, your community feels beyond blessed to have you! Thank you for sharing your huge heart with everyone you meet. Thank you for caring for ALL students and investing your time into truly making a difference. Your impact makes our community a better place!

BIGG Tip of the Week: A Simple Approach That Gets People to say Yes!
When making requests, end it with “but you are free to…” For example, “but you are free to say no” or “but you are free to help at another time.” Research shows this approach doubles the odds that someone says “Yes” Why? We love options! Give people the freedom to say “No” and they’ll likely say “Yes.” It leads to BIGG Success! Get more tips from BIGG Success here.
