ABOVE: Danville High School Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation FQHC Clinic Family Nurse Practitioner Ken’Neisha Hoskins addresses the crowd at Friday, January 26th STEPUP meeting at Danville’s Second Church of Christ.
It was last October that Ken’Neisha Hoskins took over as the Family Nurse Practitioner at the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation (SIHF) Health Clinic at Danville High School. This SIHF clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center, and FQHCs are designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services, on a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay.
During Friday (Jan 26th) morning’s STEPUP meeting at Second Church of Christ in Danville, Hoskins emphasized that if someone is a District 118 student at any school; then their immediate families, parents and siblings, are also eligible for the DHS clinic’s services. Consent forms are offered at the time of registration, but parents can call 217-920-0168 for information.
District 118 students who do not attend Danville High School can receive transportation to appointments at the SIHF health clinic from their school’s home liaison.
The SIHF clinic offers sports physicals as well as primary health care services, and Hoskins says the word is getting out even more on what this clinic can do for district families. She says one important point is if you have a student in District 118, but not at Danville High School where the clinic is, the district can make arrangements to get the student to and from their appointment.
AUDIO: What’s beneficial about our program is that the parents do not have to be present at the visit. We just need a consent form on file. If we don’t have one on file, we can call and get a verbal consent. So if a child goes to another school, we coordinate with the home liaison, and schedule appointments to get them there. So the home liaison at that school will bring them to their appointment, and then take them back to school so the parents don’t have to miss work.
Hoskins says that since taking the position at the clinic last fall she’s been networking with District 118 school nurses, hoping to get the word out even more about the SIHF Federally Qualified Health Center at Danville High School.
