A Rockville, Indiana couple has been arrested on charges of Neglect of an Infant Resulting in Death. Indiana State Police announced the arrests of 18-year-old Ashlynn G. Casey and 24-year-old Jordan Washington on Friday (May 24, 2024).
Indiana State Police had been contacted by the Vermillion County, Indiana Coroner’s Office on May 17th regarding a deceased 3-month-old infant that had been taken to Union Health Hospital in Clinton, Indiana. State Police say the infant had been taken to the hospital by Casey and Washington, the parents of the baby.
During the investigation, State Police say it was discovered that the death had occurred in Rockville, which is in Parke County. On May 20, 2024, results of an autopsy determined that the infant’s death was due to malnutrition – according to a news release from Indiana State Police.
After completing several interviews and executing a search warrant, Casey and Washington were both arrested on a Parke County warrant for neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Both were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail. State Police note that all criminal defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The investigation is ongoing. It is being conducted by Indiana State Police, the Parke County Prosecutor’s Office, Rockville Police Department, and the Parke County Coroner’s Office.
