During the 11 AM hour, the Friday (May 24th) morning of Memorial Day Weekend, it all finally became a reality. With the new sign being put in place, former Custard Cup employee Andrew Seibert, after purchasing the Danville institution in an online auction last fall, was running an open and in business Custard Cup. There was actually a bit of a rehearsal Thursday night; a soft opening for friends and family. And shortly before the Vermilion Advantage ribbon was cut on Friday, Seibert said his new team is ready to go.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Both the returning and the new staff just did an excellent job; rave reviews from everybody who came by. I’ve been telling them all it’s a marathon, not a sprint; especially this weekend with long lines. We’re just going to take our time, get things right, and give our customers the best customer service that we can.
For Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; it was the second time he had seen this at a Danville establishment in less than two years. From Sam George and his team reopening Royal Donut in August of 2022, to what Andrew Seibert did when he decided to buy Custard Cup.
With the new sign being worked on, new Custard Cup owner Andrew Seibert welcomed everyone with some words prior to Friday’s reopening. Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr and Vermilion Advantage CEO Mike Marron (3rd picture, far right) both spoke at the occasion.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: What I love is when local people step up and take pride in their home town. And for Andrew to take on this institution, that’s been here almost twice as long as many of us have been alive, we really appreciate it. And we’re excited to see what he’s going to do with the Cup under his leadership.
Vermilion Advantage CEO Mike Marrons agreed.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Wonderful that somebody has stepped up and opened the Custard Cup back up, just like Royal Donut. Both of them are institutions in Danville; and it wouldn’t be summer in Danville without the Custard Cup. So we’re glad to have this today as a grand opening, and we’re excited; going to have to get some ice cream here in a bit.
Retired District 118 teacher Jane Vrentas is a loyal Custard Cup customer. She likes what she sees.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Oh it means a lot. I’ve been excited since I thought it was going to open in March. They’re doing a wonderful job with the plans they have, and some of the traditions they’re keeping. It’s really great.
Custard Cup will be open seven days a week, including holidays, until it closes in October. Hours will be Noon to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and Noon to 10 PM Friday and Saturday
