Thursday (June 6th) evening the Danville Planning and Zoning Commission will be hearing a proposal from Mariworks, LLC to build a NuERA cannabis dispensary in Danville. This will be Mariworks’ second attempt, as last year’s proposal to build one north of I-74, west of Lynch Road, was voted down 4-0 by the Commission. Mariworks then withdrew their proposal.
This time, however, Mariworks is planning to build on the south side of I-74, with other entities participating in the project, as well as helping with costs that would be needed for brand new infrastructure. A Casey’s Truck Stop is planned, along with thus far unnamed businesses and restaurants. One party not in favor of this is Seven Point of Illinois CEO Brad Zerman, who just recently opened Danville’s second dispensary at 380 Eastgate Drive, north of I-74 and west of Lynch Road.

(1st Picture) Seven Point of Illinois recently opened over the weekend of April 20th. (2nd Picture) Seven Point CEO Brad Zerman during a previous appearance before Danville City Council.
Zerman says with Seven Point on the west side of Lynch, and Sunnyside nearby and across the way on the east side of Lynch, a third dispensary still does not make sense to him; no matter what has been added to the proposal. Zerman says his store has hired local people, and deserves a chance to grow.
AUDIO: It just seems to me like it’s a ploy to get another dispensary that we don’t need in Danville by offering the city these other businesses. I say yes to a truck stop over there, and I say restaurants everywhere. But let’s really see, is there going to be a restaurant? What kind of restaurant is it going to be? We’re a brand new business, just getting started in our second month; and the City of Danville is already trying to cause us grief by bringing on the competition. We just opened.
Calls to Mariworks LLC for this story were not returned; the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting is set for 5:15 PM Thursday (June 6th) in the Danville City Council chambers.
