DANVILLE — In an effort to make the Danville Area Community College campus safer, the board of trustees is looking at creating a police department for the college.
The board is expected to act on a resolution to establish a DACC Police Department at its next meeting, set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to Lara Conkin, executive director of college relations, this initiative would not be transferring security to Danville police.
“It is establishing our own professional police department with our own police staff,” she said. “It is believed to make campus safer and more secure. It is a change many community colleges have made or are planning to make in the near future.”
