ABOVE: Ross Darby recently appeared with Tommy B on D102’s “The Big Show”
This is the weekend for the Sunday, February 22nd “2026 Coalition Career Fair” at the David S. Palmer Arena. It was during a recent appearance with Tommy B on D102’s “The Big Show” that Greenwood Inc’s Ross Darby said that after Hyster-Yale said no to a possible new location at Bowman and West Newell, and decided instead to move their entire Danville operation to Avon, Indiana; it just became time to rally the troops; and therefore, rally the local businesses.
AUDIO: And then you start watching a few other layoffs happen; it just kind of seemed to have a big old ripple effect here at this point. What I started to feel was this urge to let them know that there’s still plenty of thriving businesses here in this community. And some that might not get that opportunity, as easily to get a voice to say, “Hey, I’m here; I have got positions open. We’d love to have you, and keep you in this community. We really just started to reach out to those businesses. The community outreach, just to me, has been quite inspiring.
Darby says through years of involvement running local businesses such as Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Park and Hall of Fame Plaques & Signs; local connections can be made to build something special at times like this. And what was needed right now was THIS coalition, creating THIS career fair.
AUDIO: And we chose the word “coalition” just to say “as businesses, WE are going to come together right now.” We are going to come together right now to show the rest of the community that we are here, and we are ready to fight to stay in this community, and fight to keep those in this community.
The “2026 Coalition Career Fair,” on Sunday the 22nd at the David S. Palmer Arena, will be from 1 to 5 PM. To hear all of Tommy B’s talk with Ross Darby, please go to https://vermilioncountyfirst.com/big-show-bites-podcast/
