After spending much of 2025 listening to Danville business owners, residents, and city leaders; urban planning consulting firm Place Foundry out of Rockford is moving into its next steps, as they work with the city on the “Danville 2050 Comprehensive Plan;” which concerns everything from housing, to transportation, to infrastructure; and of course, economic development.
During a Thursday morning (May 7th) public workshop on the plan at Obsidian Coffee in Downtown Danville, Place Foundry’s David Sidney cited some areas on the edge of Danville that could look very different someday. One was the Vermilion Regional Airport. And another, the Lynch Road Corridor.
AUDIO: Areas that are currently not within the city; but how do we have the airport become an even more stronger part of the economy here? Lynch Road Corridor; what would it look like to increase the amount of job opportunities on that corridor, and ultimately translating into more restaurant options.

Another word that Sidney used was “infill,” meaning area Danville already has, but has become vacant or in limbo, and needs new investment. As an example, he cited the area north of Danville’s Carle at the Riverfront.
Danville Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk explained further.
AUDIO: We know there’s vacancy in Danville, so now we just need to fill the voids. East Voorhees right now is the City of Danville’s main priority for redevelopment. We have a vacant area, what we consider the Heatcraft site, formerly Heatcraft; and now Quaker. It’s 75 to 100 acres of flatland that needs a little bit of floodplain remediation. But other than that, all the utilities are there. That’s a good example of redensifying a community.
Another public workshop recently held on the Danville 2050 Comprehensive Plan was Wednesday evening in the Carle at the Riverfront Conference Room.
