June 1: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Weekly gardening event for children and families. Let’s get started gardening! Start your gardening journal and look for treasures in the garden. 9:30 -10:30 AM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office.
June 2: Teen Crafternoons. Tuesdays = your creative time. Hang out and make cool stuff. No sign-up, no stress. Just show up and create something awesome! This week: Build Kits – choose a mini block kit to build tiny trinkets! While supplies last. 3:30 – 4:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Teen Space. Intended for ages 13 – 19.
June 2: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under – Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in the Program Room.
June 3: Publishing 101. Curious about how to publish your writing? Learn Publishing Basics from local author M.I.H. McCool, who brings over 20 years of experience in the publishing world! June 3: Teen Writing Club. We’ve got writing prompts and games to spark your imagination and snacks* to fuel your mind! *While supplies last. Come write, chill, and connect with other teen writers. No pressure, just good vibes, cool ideas, and a space to be creative. Wednesdays, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm in the 2nd Floor Teen Space.
June 3: Virtual Author Talk: Your Ticket to the Best State Fair Crafts with Smithsonian Curator Mary Savig. Join us for a fascinating discussion with Smithsonian Curator Mary Savig on the history and significance of craft at state fairs—from blue-ribbon quilts to sculpted butter cows, and so much more, on Wednesday, June 3rd at 1:00 PM via digital live-stream in partnership with Library Speakers Consortium. June 4: Lit Fit with Mandy. Join us Thursdays starting in April for a dance fitness series that’s as fun as your favorite book. All fitness levels welcome. Bring your water bottle and wear clothes that can handle your best moves! 3:00 – 4:00 PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
June 6: CREATE. Join us on the first Saturday of each month for CREATE! This month: Seed Mosaics. Create a colorful masterpiece using a variety of everyday beans, seeds, and grains of all sizes, shapes, and colors. All materials are provided. If you happen to have any special seeds, beans, or grains at home that you would like to use for your project, just bring them along. (Examples: rice, beans, bird seed, flower seeds, garden seeds of any kind). Only 20 spots available; sign up on our website! 1 pm in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. Ages 5-12
June 6: Diamond Painting Craft Club. Treat yourself to some creative time the 1st Saturday of Every Month! This month’s theme is Hot Air Balloons! Beat the Summer Heat: Beginning June 1st, stop by the Children’s Department and make a bright, colorful summer visor. Choose a red, blue, yellow, pink, purple or orange visor and use stickers and markers to decorate your visor. One per child while quantities last.
