The men and women who paid the ultimate price while serving in America’s Armed Forces were honored Monday during a ceremony at Danville’s VA National Cemetery. The occasion was Memorial Day, but local VA Director, Dr. Staci Williams, told the crowd they should be remembered everyday…
{AUDIO: “May we honor the fallen by living in a way that reflects the values they stood for – unity, gratitude, courage, and love of country. Let us leave here today with full hearts and a shared commitment to remember – not just today, but every day.”}

State Representative Brandun Schweizer was the keynote speaker. He noted there are ways to continue honoring those who served…
{AUDIO: “We honor them by loving our country. We honor them by serving our communities. We honor them by teaching our children faith, responsibility, gratitude and patriotism. And we honor them by never allowing the sacrifices buried here today to be forgotten. Memorial Day should also remind us to pray for those who continue to serve today, and for the families who carry the burden of sacrifice alongside them.}

The ceremony included the placing of wreaths…including one from the Minnesota Chapter of Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor. Others participating in the ceremony included the Danville Municipal Band, Marine Corp League, and a Salute to the Fallen by American Legion Post 210.
