The Danville City Council Public Works Committee has forwarded to the full council a plan to provide $50,000 in grants from the Downtown TIF (Tax Increment Financing) District to the new Bresee Bar and Grill on North Street. Following the success of last month’s LIVE ON NORTH STREET event, Bresee Bar and Grill is planning to have some outdoor seating right out front on the sidewalk area. Danville Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk says the downtown businesses right around there are very much in favor of this.

Bresee Bar and Grill’s LIVE ON NORTH STREET on Saturday, June 20th.
AUDIO: This isn’t just a direct benefit to Bresee Bar and Grill. Mind you, they will likely, if approved by City Council for a rider license; they will have a portion of the right to fence off and utilize for their own business. But this is, hopefully, to bring more people downtown; so they stay downtown and they spend more money downtown. That’s the idea here.

Meanwhile, the Public Works Committee forwarded to the full council an agreement with the Danville Rescue men’s homeless shelter on North Bowman to provide $2,500 per month for two years starting in August. But Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr was adamant that this is mainly for help with insurance. He says donations for operations are still very much needed, and Danville Rescue executive director Michael Ewing agreed.
AUDIO: Our insurance alone is actually $2,700 (monthly). But it’s a for sure footing. And that’s what we need. But we need more contributions and more donors from the city. From residents, business, from churches. Five dollars, ten dollars, three dollars, A dollar. Gatorade, ice, a meal, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream. We need all of that.
Reminding once again, you can stop by at 213 North Bowman, or call 432-288-7798.
One other reminder as well; there’s a 5:30 PM meeting on Thursday (July 16th) for residents along Boiling Springs Road who will be affected by the city’s upcoming curb and sidewalk work along Boiling Springs. The meeting is scheduled for Faith Church of Christ at 3601 Quaker Lane.
