Although substantial COVID relief ARPA funding has already been committed to helping with substantial improvements on the Joseph G. Cannon County Building and the Vermilion County Courthouse, County Board Chairman Steve Miller says much of the already approved work is not done yet. Two examples at the county building would be the recent failure of the air conditioning system; along with elevator problems, apparently due to, Miller says; “lack if energy from the electric supplier.”
Miller says an emergency resolution was passed a couple of months ago concerning the fixing of the cooling towers on the roof of the Cannon Building. Miller says that while waiting for the arrival of the new cooling tower, the county is simply scrambling to have as much air conditioning in the Cannon Building as possible.
Previous projects already taken care of have included improving the interiors and infrastructures, and heating and cooling apparatuses, within the Cannon and Garman Courthouse buildings; including the replacement of 100 windows in the Cannon Building.
Miller says some good news from this past week was the receiving of an $87,000 check from their contractor Centrica for the county’s work on meeting certain incentives to include various energy conserving facilities.
